San Luis Obispo BMW Drivers Get  A First Look At The 2019 BMW X4

Until BMW came up with the X6 a few years ago there wasn't really any such thing as a crossover coupe. Despite a lukewarm welcome for the X6 from some parts of the media initially, the BMW proved to be hugely popular with consumers. The crossover coupe body style has become increasingly prevalent recently, and we now have smaller, more affordable models you can check out at a San Luis Obispo BMW dealer like the stunning 2019 BMW X4.

As well as its intriguing silhouette, fabulous engines, a great eight-speed automatic transmission, composed ride and great driving dynamics, the 2019 BMW X4 also has all the upscale features you'd hope to find in a true luxury vehicle from a San Luis Obispo car dealer. Although the X4 only arrived in 2014, the 2019 model year is the first year of the attractive BMW's all-new second-generation.

There are two versions of the 2019 BMW X4, which the manufacturer refers to as a Sports Activity Coupe: the xDrive30i and the M40i. These two models not only look sporty, but they also drive and perform every bit as well as they look. Under the hood of the xDrive30i is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to all four wheels through what has to be one of the best eight-speed automatic transmissions on the market. If even more power and performance are required, the X4 M40i has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo, and this one develops 355 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. Although only one of the models has xDrive in its name, both models come standard with the BMW all-wheel-drive system, but the system is more biased to the rear-wheels in the performance-focused M40i.

If the exterior of the 2019 BMW X4 has your attention and the powertrains have caught your imagination, the interior of the X4 will probably seal the deal. Everything about the interior screams “upscale,” with top-quality soft-touch materials throughout, a prestigious design, and controls for the onboard systems that are a cut above just about anything else in the segment.

Both models are bursting with the latest features and equipment. Standard levels of kit are excellent, and those who like to pick and choose from an extensive options list to personalize their vehicle to specific requirements will have a lot to choose from. The two models come with a similar set of standard features, but as well as the uprated powertrain, the M40i also includes an appearance package that delivers different bumpers and darker exterior trim. The M40i also gives buyers the chance to add seriously high-quality soft leather and a number of optional interior features not available for the xDrive30i.

The xDrive30i standard equipment includes automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic power moonroof, rain-sensing wipers, a power tailgate, BMW Navigation with a 10.25-inch high-resolution screen and 3-D maps, and the iDrive onboard computer control system.

Given the relatively low sales volume of such a high-end vehicle, the testing agencies are unlikely to crash test the 2019 BMW X4. However, all the usual airbags, traction control, ABS brakes and other safety features we now take for granted are standard. Both models also come with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, as well as a system capable of rolling up the windows and tightening the seat belts if the X4 senses an imminent collision.
